Follow the Fellow with a Map

Just to give you a little teaser of the travel tales to come, I’ve posted a map of my whereabouts from September to December in 2009. It’s not very interactive at this point, but I’m working on it. You can click on the blue dots and see which college or university I visited. It’s amazing to see all those blue dots span the country. Then I think about how I feel like a little blue dot sometimes when I travel. This country is humongous, and I am tiny. Also, I’m working on a mileage counter for all the miles I’ve traveled. I bet it’s a lot.

A Toast to Keeping Resolutions!

This is my first official post as ODK Fellow despite the fact that I started the fellowship on September 8, 2009. My life has been an amazing whirlwind of planes, trains, and automobiles for the past four months. I had every intention of chronicling (via blog post) each of my ODK adventures with extraordinary, vivid detail to keep you on the edge of your seats with anticipation. Unfortunately, my good intentions didn’t magically translate themselves into funny, informative blog posts. Isn’t there a saying about some road to somewhere being paved with good intentions??? Either way, I think I’ve corrected my proverbial ODK vehicle back to the road paved with real results and interesting stories. All this to say, I’ll be writing about my past, current, and future travels as the Omicron Delta Kappa Fellow. And if you’re lucky (and if I can remember), I’ll be posting pictures and videos of the places that I’m visiting. I have a terrible urge to quote Dr. Seuss here, but I’ll hold off on the obvious clichés (at least for now…). In all seriousness, I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of this organization. I am astounded daily at the caliber of leadership, integrity and character of our members, officers, and alumni. I never imagined I’d be where I am today – doing what I’m doing, and I certainly never imagined I could get paid to be doing it.

If you absolutely can’t wait for my epically captivating travel tales, you can check out the digital picture version of my very own modern Odyssey at our ODK Facebook fan page. (For you lit majors that got my Homer reference, I’ll refrain from dactylic hexameter, but stay true to the non-linear plot.) Also, since I know you’re just dying for instantaneous updates from ODK National Headquarters you can follow us on twitter @ODK1914. I have one too: @ODKFellow. If you want to be green, find me on Skype (odkfellow) or Yahoo messenger (odkfellow), and we can have video conference like in those awesome Cisco commercials. For those of you still livin’ in 2002, you can contact me via electronic mail at matthopper@odk.org or via landline (toll-free nonetheless!) at 877-635-6437, extension 7. Then of course, there’s the good ole fashioned pen and paper, pony express method of correspondence. I actually enjoy writing a letter, sealing the envelope, stickin’ on a stamp, and droppin’ it in the post. If you do too, send me a letter at 421 North Broadway, Lexington, KY 40508. I look forward to chatting!

I suppose that’s all for now. I’ll leave you with some nice imagery that will hopefully make you want to visit Utah.

a.k.a. Veterans Memorial Highway -- think about it...

The beautiful Utah landscape.
